There is the difference between the stress and anxiety. The symptoms of anxiety and stress are driven by the same chemical reaction; stress is a normal response to a threatening situation and anxiety is largely caused by worry. In fact, 'anxiety' and 'stress' are just two different words to describe the same experience - the symptoms of a higher heart rate, sweaty palms, churning stomach. All these symptoms, and others, are explained by the physiological changes that occur when the mind and body experience stress or anxiety. If there is one difference between anxiety and stress, it is that anxiety is usually perceived as more short-term, whereas stress can last for weeks, months, or even years.

Stress and anxiety in children and teenagers are just as prevalent as in adults. Stressed out and negligent parents, high expectations in academic or other performances, abused or deprived childhood, growing up tensions and demand for familial responsibility are the main causes of childhood and teen stress. Parents, who are not emotionally available for their children or lack positive coping mechanisms themselves, often spur stress in their offspring.

My wife thinks I am stress free and that I SHOULD worry more about things. She thinks I have a problem in that I do NOT get anxious enough. Is there such a thing as not enough stress?

Hey well both means tension but stress is generally you feel depressed because of tension ,negative feeling but anxiety can be caused because of depression or sometimes because you are very happy and excited.

Usually anxiety is short tern where as stress can last for weeks, months, or even years. Anxiety makes your body think there is real danger. Stress is due to the overactivity of our nervous system and abnormal secretion of the hormones adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol

Hello!
A good question! While each of these expereinces are unique in nature, they all can be intermixed.

STRESS is a response to any event which is perceived to alter or threaten our well–being. The experience of stress is a cognitive (thought) process.

How we view the events of our life is subjective and will influence its effect. Whether an event is viewed in a positive or a negative light, it will produce a response. For instance, going on a 1st date is exciting for some and terrifying for others. In both instances there is cognitive and emotional tension that can be met by a stress response.

ANXIETY is a cognitive function that can produce an emotional sense of discomfort, uneasiness and or distress.

It is based in apprehension, doubt or fear about whether an event will occur or the outcome of the event. Along with this is a lack of confidence in one's ability to cope.

In its severest form, anxiety will produce panic attacks wherein an individual will experience sudden, discrete periods of intense anxiety, fear and discomfort.
