Dandruff is one of the most frequently observed hair problem, characterized by the itching and flaking of the scalp. There are numerous causes of dandruff. Mentioned here are just a few common ones:

• The prime cause of dandruff is found to be a yeast called Pityrosporum Ovale.
  

• One of the most important causes of dandruff is found to be stress or emotional tension. High level of emotional anxiety can exacerbate dandruff problem.
  

• Another common cause is the constant shampooing of hair in hot water. Shampooing in hot water can cause your scalp to lose its natural oils making it dry and flaky.
  

• Just as constant hot water shampooing can cause dandruff, blow drying your hair from very close can also result in dandruff.
  

• Another major cause of hair dandruff may be the high intake of sugar. In line with this, it is a fact that people suffering from diabetes are more prone to dandruff problem.
  

• Dandruff may also result in people who are low on the intake of essential fats.

Nice post! Mental stress can also cause dandruff!

Dandruff is caused by micro-organism called pityrosporum-ovle which are present in every body's scalp. Symptoms of dandruff get aggravated when exposed to dust, UV light, harsh chemical based shampoo, hair dyes etc., this results in increase in number of microbes which causes unhealthy residue over the scalp which leads to dandruff, which is the cause of unhealthy scalp results in unhealthy, lifeless hair and may result in excessive loss of hair too.

Remember not to get dandruff mixed up with head lice as they look really similar in size and colour.

There may be many causes of hair fall. My opinion Prevention is better than cure.

The exact cause of dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) is unknown. Most experts do know, though, that it is not caused by poor hygiene. It can be due to not enough hair brushing, dry skin, not enough shampooing, certain skin conditions and illness, and mental stress.
