Default HIV vs AIDS

Before you get a knowledge of the various signs and symptoms of HIV/AIDS, you need to understand the basic difference between HIV and AIDS. Being diagnosed as HIV positive may not necessarily mean that you have contracted AIDS. In fact, you may not have AIDS for the next 10 years or so until your immune system problems appear. In simpler terms, HIV is the actual infection while, AIDS is what results once the immune system is compromised leading the way to other infections.

HIV/AIDS Symptoms:

• Chronic yeast infections or thrush
• Bouts of extreme exhaustion
• Sudden unexplained weight loss
• Unexplained body rashes
• Easy bruising
• Fever and night sweats
• Chronic diarrhea
• Appearance of purplish lesions on the skin or inside mouth

Hey,

Just wanted to give my thoughts to this aswell, my uncle actually has Aids and it was something that our family was totally unaware of but he knew that he was HIV+ he just wasn't sure that he had aids until the tests finally showed that he did.

WE only realised after he was taken very ill and lost 4 stones of weight by contracting something called PCP (Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia) which is something that you can only get if you have Aids, as this pnuemonia attacks once the immune system has been taken out.

I think its right that threads like this show people exactly what they should be looking out for!

Thanks

Default HIV vs AIDS

Hiv (human immunodeficiency virus) simply means you are effected with a virus, which damage the immune defense cells and the body becomes increasingly less able to fight off infection. Whereas Aids means (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome), which describe a whole group of symptoms and diseases associated with the damage HIV does to the immune system.

I was already aware of this but it is something definitely worth getting out to the public (and what better way to do that than on a public health forum). This is something that everyone should be aware of as an educated human being.

While HIV/AIDS may never affect any of us during our lifetimes it will most likely affect someone close to us or someone who we know. And because of this, it is very important to be knowledgeable when it comes to HIV/AIDS so that you are not only aware of the issue but also able to hold a conversation relating to the subject without looking like an idiot.

AIDS and HIV are not the name shared by the same thing, AIDS is basically the graduated level of HIV. a person contracts AIDS when he/she has lost a requiered amount of the cd4 cells. you can read all about it in detail, how it started, what happens in it, who are at stake , and what kind of symptoms do they possess etc.

Default doubt

HIV/AIDS can be transmitted through intercourse. If that is true, is cancer transmittable through intercourse as well? If not, how come? I know this sounds like an odd question, but it got me to thinking..
